John Deere Surpasses Production of 5 Million Engines
WATERLOO, Iowa – John Deere, recently surpassed production of its 5-millionth engine. The production milestone was marked Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at facilities in Waterloo, Iowa; Pune, Ind.; Saran, France; Torreon, Mexico; and Rosario, Argentina.
“This is a momentous achievement for John Deere Power Systems because it shows the strides we have made over the years in producing the best engines in the market,” says Jim White, senior vice president of John Deere Power Systems. “It also shows the loyalty of our customers and the faith they’ve put in us and our engines year after year.”
John Deere first entered the engine business in 1918 when it purchased Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company. In 1949, Deere produced its first diesel engine. Fifty-five years later, John Deere has reached this milestone with an expanded engine lineup that includes diesel engines from 49 to 600 horsepower for use in a variety of off-highway applications. The company also produces on-highway natural gas engines.
In the agricultural industry, John Deere engines are used to power John Deere agricultural equipment, as well as a variety of OEM agricultural applications including irrigation units, specialty harvesters, sprayers, baggers and generator sets. Additionally, John Deere engines are used by more than 700 equipment manufacturers around the world to power portable compressors, forklifts, yachts, workboats, industrial equipment and other applications.
